Monday saw the start of Trinidad & Tobago’s National Water Polo team in the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships, CISC Games being held in Puerto Rico this year.
In attendance are teams from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Netherland Antilles, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago.
TT first game was played at 4pm on Monday against Barbados with TT finishing with a convincing 11 to 6 win. The goals being scored by Christian Flook 3, Stephen Espinet 2 Stuart Gillette 2 Marc Stampfli 2, Delano Othero 1 and Ian Welch-Phillips 1.
Our second game was played later that same evening at 9pm against the host country in front of a large home crowd. The TT Under 20 boys started off slowly reeling from an early goal in the first 30 seconds and finishing the first quarter down 4 to nil. The National players showed courage and stamina pulling the game back 7 to 5 in the final quarter but eventually finishing 8 to 5 in the dying minutes of the game.
The goals in the Puerto Rico Game were scored by Flook, Gillette, and Othero at one a piece while Espinet netted 2 for the Nationals.
The 12 man team is comprised of Troy Gordon, Stuart Gillette, Christian Flook, Stephen Espinet, Ian Welch-Phillips, Delano Othero, Mattheaus Othero, Matthew Abraham, Marc Stampfli, Jean Philippe Francis, Jason Rodriguez and Gregory Joseph (goalie). The national water polo team is coached by James Robertson.
